The History of Potrero Media

Years of experience bringing marketing to search

Founded in San Francisco's Potrero Hill neighborhood, Potrero Media began making its mark in the search engine marketing field as early as 2001. While performance-based marketing had been around for some time, the phenomenon of paid search was still in its infancy. Pop-up advertising and email marketing were still preferred channels for clients wishing to set-up perfomance-based marketing arrangements. Recognizing the complexity and effectiveness of the search channel, the company set out to create a performance-based marketing agency focused on search.

In the years that followed, Potrero Media has led its clients through major advancements in the search industry. Google AdWords launched in 2002. Yahoo! acquired Overture in 2003, InterActiveCorp (IAC) purchased Ask in 2005, and MSN launched its Live Search in 2006. Throughout these changes, Potrero Media has been at the forefront of the industry, ensuring that its clients were positioned to take advantage of the opportunities created via search.

In early 2006, Potrero Media Corporation formally introduced its proprietary framework for search engine marketing focused on the needs of the consumer, a concept they penned Consumer Demand Marketing™.

Today, Potrero Media services hundreds of clients, oversees nearly 100 web sites, and actively manages close to 10 million search terms, ultimately reaching millions of consumers every day.
